What is a series?
A common Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) question type is known as a ‘Series’.
In Series questions, we are given four figures that form a logical series.
The ‘figure’ is simply each shape or set of shapes that make up one part of the series.
The fifth frame is left blank and we must choose one figure from five options to best complete the series.
The fourth shape, because the shapes in the series increase by one in the number of their sides.
It cannot be the fifth shape, even though it has the correct number of sides, because the outline is too bold.
How to find the answer to Series questions
To help work out the series pattern, we can ask ourselves the following questions that focus on key elements of each figure in the series:
- How many shapes does the figure have?
- How big or small is the figure?
- Is the figure shaded or not?
- What kind of outline does the figure have?
- In which direction is the figure pointing?
- Where are the shapes of the figure positioned?
- Do shapes overlap or not in the figure?
- Does the figure have any lines of symmetry?
