Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School uses the FSCE (Future Stories Community Enterprise) Entrance Test.

Girls sit two papers, both covering English and maths:

Adventure Paper: English and maths questions with multiple-choice answers, shaded onto a separate answer sheet

Beacon Paper: English and maths questions answered with short written answers, one letter or digit per box

There is no verbal reasoning, no non-verbal reasoning and no creative writing paper. Everything is drawn from the Key Stage 2 curriculum taught up to the end of Year 5, and the papers are age-standardised so that younger girls in the year group are not disadvantaged.

Instructions are played from a recording rather than read out by an invigilator, answers must be written in black pen as pencils are not allowed, rulers and calculators are not permitted, and no marks are deducted for a wrong answer, so your daughter should never leave a box empty.
