Alleyn’s sets an entrance exam composed of:

• English (40 minutes) – directed writing question in response to a written stimulus. Evidence of comprehension, clarity, fluency and accuracy of writing are assessed, as well as creativity and linguistic flair.
• Maths (30 minutes) – standard format and multiple-choice test largely based on the National Curriculum until the end of Year 5, including number and place value, calculations, fractions/decimals/percentages, measurement, geometry and statistics, as well as fluency in arithmetic problem solving. Some questions at the end will be harder and go beyond the curriculum, but will be self-explanatory.
• Reasoning (45 minutes) – multiple-choice test set by GL Assessment, containing Verbal Reasoning (reasoning with words), Non-Verbal Reasoning (reasoning with the relationships between abstract figures and shapes), and Spatial Reasoning (reasoning with manipulating abstract figures).
