Trinity School is a boys’ independent day school for 10 to 18-year-olds with a mixed Sixth Form based in Croydon, South London. The school was founded in 1882 by Archbishop of Canterbury John Whitgift; in the present day, the school currently looks after around 1,048 students.

The school’s key aims are to encourage the growth of intellectual curiosity, creativity and independent learning; provide well-qualified, inspirational and dedicated staff; offer outstanding pastoral care; promote the development of self-discipline, responsibility, physical and emotional well-being, moral and spiritual values, provide excellent facilities and a wide range of high-quality co-curricular activities, prepare pupils for life beyond school through an understanding of higher education and career possibilities, and work in a close and effective partnership with parents.

On offer at Trinity School are some fantastic facilities, namely their Concert Hall, which seats 470, Mitre Theatre, which seats 120 heads, and a 25m swimming pool. Moreover, Trinity School has an outstanding Co-curricular Programme, which runs every Wednesday with the goal to expand students’ abilities and get them ready for their bright futures. Activities include archery, basketball, botanical art, D of E, Dungeons and Dragons, cookery, band, Model United Nations, Rugby Academy, sign language, Japanese club, Lego league, school musical production, and upcycling club – to name a few.

The school is currently ranked at spot 23 in The Sunday Times Parent Power rankings. Most recently, in their 2018 Ofsted inspection, the school was rated Good. In addition, their students secured some stellar results in 2023, with 92% of students achieving grades A*-B at A Level and 89% of all GCSE grades being 9-7.

Admissions information for 2024 entry to Trinity School at 11 Plus (11+)

Registration is available on Trinity’s website till Monday 30 October 2023; you can register via their registration portal. Following registration, your child will be invited to sit the school’s 11+ entrance exam on Wednesday 13 December 2023. If your child is successful in their exam, they will be asked to an interview with a member of the school’s teaching staff; the admissions team will let you know when this date will be, although it will not be long after the exam.

After the exams and interviews, decisions will be posted to parents on Friday 9 February 2024. If your child is successful, you must accept their offer by Monday 4 March 2024. The school hosts Decider tours before this date, on Wednesday 21 February 2024, to help you and your child make the decision to accept the offer. If you want to accept the school’s offer, you must do so by Monday 4 March 2024.

The school fees for Trinity School are £22,685 annually, which can be paid by month, which covers school uniform, school lunches, sports and PE kit, external examination entry feeds, individual music and LAMDA tuition, the majority of curricular trips and Field Days (some non-academic trips need to be separately paid for). However, the school offers scholarships and bursaries through the Whitgift Foundation and Trinity Bursary Fund, meaning over half of their parents are not paying the full school fee.

Scholarships, which are not dependent on parental income, can reduce school fees by up to 50%. As long as your child continues to meet the standards for their scholarship, it will last throughout their education at the school. There are Academic Scholarships, which you are not required to submit a separate application form for as all 10+, 11+, 13+, and Sixth Form students will be automatically considered, and non-academic scholarships, including Music, Sport, Drama, Art and Design and Technology, which you will need to submit a separate application form for and your child will need to sit a separate assessment for. Scholarship assessments, as well as Academic Interviews, will be held throughout January 2024.

Bursaries, which are dependent on parental income, also require a separate application, although notably, your child may apply for both a bursary and a scholarship. Bursary support is offered through the John Whitgift Foundation and Trinity’s own additional bursary fund. Bursary applications are available from Friday 8 September 2023 till Friday 24 November 2023.

How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exams at Trinity School?

You will need to submit a non-refundable application fee of either £200 (UK citizens) or £250 (international applicants) unless there are exceptional circumstances (i.e. your child receives Pupil Premium/free school lunches) which will need to be confirmed through the admissions department. If you submit your child’s application late under special circumstances, there will be an additional charge of £100.
