Surbiton High School is a leading independent day school for girls aged 4-18 and boys aged 4-11. Located in Surbiton, in Kingston upon Thames, Surbiton High School is recognised for its strong pastoral care, exceptional curriculum and innovative approach to teaching. [1]

In 2022, 90.1% of all GCSEs were achieved in grades 9-7 and 95% of A Levels were achieved in grades A*-B, with 91% of pupils receiving offers from their first-choice university. In their most recent report, the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) graded the school ‘excellent’ across multiple categories and noted that ‘Pupils’ all-round achievement in a range of academic, social, creative and physical areas fulfils the school’s aims’. The Surbiton High School curriculum is designed to empower pupils to develop strong learning habits and spark their intellectual curiosity, creativity and individuality. As well as providing expert teaching in core subjects, such as English, maths and science, Surbiton High School offers a broad range of subjects, including art, computing, design technology, drama, history, Latin, modern foreign languages, religion and philosophy, PE and music. Alongside its excellent and extensive curriculum, Surbiton High School offers an array of extra and co-curricular activities for students to engage in. Some of these clubs and societies include a selection of sports options; art clubs; Model United Nations; YogaLab; Advanced Touch Typing Club; Literary Society; Surbiton Student Podcast; and drama, dance and music clubs. Admissions information for 2024 entry to Surbiton High School at 11 Plus (11+)

The school strongly recommends that prospective students and their parents attend one of Surbiton High School’s open events. Their next open event will take place on 19 September 2023. You can book and find out more information about these events on the Surbiton High School website. Please ensure you book this event early, as places tend to fill up quickly.

This will allow you and your child to familiarise yourselves with the facilities, meet the staff, and ensure Surbiton High School is the right choice for you. 

Surbiton High School is an academically selective school and every place is competitively sought after. Admission in Year 7 is based on an entrance exam, which will take place on 25 November 2023. 

You will be told the results of your child’s entrance exam in mid-December 2023, at which point shortlisted candidates will be invited for a one-to-one interview with a senior member of staff.

Letters regarding the outcome of this admissions process, scholarships and bursaries will then be sent out to all candidates in early February 2024. You will need to confirm your child’s place by completing an acceptance form by early March 2024 and paying a £1000 non-refundable deposit.

How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exams at Surbiton High School?

To register your child for Surbiton High School, you should complete the online application form which can be found here. A non-refundable fee of £150 is required at this stage. Surbiton High School will contact your child’s current school for an academic reference and attendance report.

If you wish to apply for a bursary you can submit an application by completing the relevant form on the bursary page by 5 October 2023. You can apply for a scholarship (academic, art, drama, dance, performing arts, music and sport) by filling out an application form by 5 October 2023.

What is the entrance 11 Plus (11+) exam format for Surbiton High School?

The Surbiton High School 11+ examination consists of two papers:

  • English 
  • Maths 

These assessments are designed to test National Curriculum content from Year 5 and the start of Year 6. 

The English paper will focus on writing and reading comprehension skills. Candidates will be assessed on their spelling, punctuation, grammar and ability to infer. 

The maths paper will include National Curriculum maths topics such as number and place value; addition and subtraction; multiplication and division; fractions; measurement; properties of shape; position and direction; and statistics.
