Admissions information for 2027 entry to Stretford Grammar School at 11 Plus (11+)

Stretford Grammar School is one of five schools in the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium, alongside Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, Sale Grammar School, Stretford Grammar School and Urmston Grammar School. Trafford has seven grammar schools, not five. Loreto Grammar School and St Ambrose College are the other two and they set a different test on a different day. If either is on your list, you need to register for that test separately.

You register with the school, not the council, and registering is not applying for a place. You must also name Stretford Grammar School on the Common Application Form submitted to your home local authority by 31 October 2026. Each consortium school sets its own qualifying score, so the same result can qualify at one school and not at another.

How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exams at Stretford Grammar School?

What is the 11 Plus (11+) entrance exam format for Stretford Grammar School?

The Trafford consortium confirmed its partnership with GL Assessment for this test. It is two papers, each about an hour long, and the subjects are blended rather than split one per paper:

• Verbal skills. Word choice, vocabulary, how words relate to each other, and verbal comprehension.
• Non-verbal skills. Shape and pattern relationships, sequences and spatial reasoning.
• Mathematics. Key Stage 2 content applied to problem solving.

• Practise blended papers, not single-subject ones. Both Trafford papers mix maths, verbal and non-verbal questions, so switching between question types at speed is a skill in itself.
• Do not skip comprehension because there is no English paper. It sits inside the verbal element and still carries marks.
• Check each school’s own qualifying score. The consortium shares a test, not a pass mark.
• Diarise 19 June 2026. Registration closes then and the exam is on a Monday in September.
