About St Catherine’s School

St Catherine’s is a leading independent day school for girls aged 4-18. Located on the banks of the River Thames in Twickenham, the school is well-known for its pastoral care, nurturing environment and strong academic record. 

In 2022, 76% of their GCSE grades were 9-6 and 97% of their A Level grades were A*-C. In their most recent report, the ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) described St Catherine’s as ‘excellent’ in all categories. 

St Catherine’s strives to inspire its girls to develop a love of learning; achieving this through its small class sizes, dedicated teachers and a stimulating curriculum which encompasses a wide range of topics. The curriculum in Year 7 includes traditional subjects, such as English, maths and science, as well as other subjects including an array of modern foreign languages, religious education, music, drama, art, computer science, PE, geography and history. 

Alongside their engaging curriculum, St Catherine’s offers an extensive range of extra and co-curricular activities. These clubs and societies encompass a range of sports and physical activities; creative and performing arts, including music and drama; Debating Society; Food Technology Society; Literature Club; and Photography Club.

Admissions information for 2027 entry to St Catherine’s School at 11 Plus (11+)

The school strongly recommends that prospective students and their parents attend one of St Catherine’s open events. St Catherine’s next open event will take place in June 2026. You can book and find out more information about this event on the St Catherine’s website. Please ensure you book this event early, as places tend to fill up quickly.

This will allow you and your child to familiarise yourselves with the facilities, meet the staff, and ensure St Catherine’s is the right choice for you. 

St Catherine’s is an academically selective school and every place is competitively sought after. Admission into Year 7 is based on an informal interview with the Headteacher, in the Autumn Term, followed by an entrance exam, which will take place in December 2026.

The school does not value one part of the application process over another. The examination and interview are considered equally important. School reports and references are also taken into consideration.

Offer letters will be sent out in February 2027 and places need to be accepted by March 2027 with a £1,000 deposit. 

How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exam at St Catherine’s School?

To register your child for St Catherine’s, you should complete the online application form which can be found here. The registration fee is £100 and is non-refundable.

What is the 11 Plus (11+) entrance exam format for St Catherine’s School?

The St Catherine’s 11+ examination consists of two papers:

  • English (1 hour)
    • Examines your daughter’s comprehension and writing skills 
    • Tests their spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, inference and grammar skills, as well as their imagination, sentence structure, organisation and creativity
  • Maths (1 hour)
    • Examines your daughter’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills
