Queen Elizabeth’s School (also known as QE Boys) is a selective, state-funded, non-denominational grammar school with academy status, providing education for boys aged 11 to 18. Located in Barnet, Greater London and founded in 1573, it is consistently among the highest academically performing schools across both the state and independent sectors. [1]

QE Boys offers a broad and varied curriculum that develops and challenges students academically, whilst also providing an array of exceptional extra-curricular opportunities to allow students to pursue all of their interests and learn new skills. The curriculum offers traditional subjects and approaches, such as English, maths and Latin, whilst also embracing innovative teaching methods and disciplines, such as digital literacy, politics, and economics. [2]

QE Boys’ list of extracurriculars is exciting and extensive. Whether your child finds fulfilment in drama, musical performance, sports, or another area, there is usually a club or society that will cater to their needs. Chess, politics, comics, computing, debating, and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme are just a handful of the amazing activities on offer at QE Boys. [3]

Admission to Queen Elizabeth’s School for Year 7 2024 is through academic assessment, based on an entrance exam taken in September 2023. Year 7 spaces are extremely competitive, with around 10 applications for every place available.

It is recommended that prospective students and their parents attend QE Boys’ Open Day on 6 July 2023. This will give your child the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the school, meet any key members of staff and ensure that QE Boys is the right choice for your family.

Entrance to QE Boys is based on your child’s results in the 11+ examination. After the exams have been marked and scored, the candidates who have achieved a combined score of 220 or higher will be eligible to be considered for admission to the school. If your son has achieved the standard entry score, you may then be invited to book a tour of the school during its working hours. Tours will be available to book from 3 October 2023.

A detailed Admissions Guide for Parents can be found on the school’s official website, alongside other key information and useful documents.
