About Newstead Wood School
Newstead Wood School was originally founded in 1954 as Orpington Grammar School for Girls. The school boasts a range of facilities that include Music, Engineering, Technology and Sports blocks, as well as a purpose-built Sixth-form. Students are encouraged to supplement their academic studies with sports, music, and cultural trips to locations like Japan, New York and Malta.
The school has an excellent support network that includes careers advice and university application support from Year 7 onwards. Newstead Wood aims to cater to students of all abilities, and has become internationally recognised for its ability to support students both academically and beyond.
Their academic record is outstanding, with almost 40% of all GCSE results graded 9, and 16% of all A level results awarded an A*. Sixth-form students at Newstead Wood have gone on to study at prestigious universities like Oxbridge, UCL, and Imperial College London.

Admissions information for 2027 entry to Newstead Wood School at 11 Plus (11+)
Since Newstead Wood School is part of the Pan London Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme, parents must name Newstead Wood on the application form issued by their child’s local authority. Girls are eligible to sit the selection test if their eleventh birthday falls between the 1st of September 2026 and 31 August 2027, though exceptions can be made with references from the girl’s current school and local authority.
The selection test is held in September 2026, and is designed to test academic ability; girls must score a certain amount of marks in order to be considered for a place at the school. The school will inform parents of their children’s outcomes in October 2026, though passing the selection test does not guarantee a place.
Offers of a place will be based on how each child’s score ranks amongst all applicants. Priority is first given to children living in care, followed by girls who within 9 miles of the school who are in receipt of Pupil Premium. The remaining places are filled strictly by the order of test score ranks, with preference being given to those girls whose permanent place of residence is within 9 miles of the school. Due to places being in high demand, places are rarely offered to girls living outside of the school’s catchment area. There is a waiting list for girls who scored highly but did not receive an offer, which will be maintained until December 2027 in case places become available.
How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exam at Newstead Wood School?
Parents should register their child for a place using the online registration form found on the school website. The form must be filled in, alongside any required supporting evidence, between May and June 2026.
An email will be sent to tell you whether or not your registration has been successfully processed; late registration is possible, although the selection test will be deferred until January 2027.
