Latymer Upper School, founded in 1624, is a fully co-educational independent school, located on the banks of the Thames in West London. With an ethos of social inclusivity and a history of over 400 years, Latymer Upper School is one of the country’s leading co-educational day schools. [1]

In 2022, the school achieved excellent GCSE and A Level results. At GCSE level 95% of all grades were 9-7, with 29 students achieving straight 9s. In their A Level results, 94% of grades were A*-B and 88% of students secured their first choice university, with 19 students securing places at Oxford and Cambridge. [2]

Admissions Information for 2024 entry to Latymer Upper School at 11 Plus (11+)

Securing a Year 7 spot at Latymer is highly competitive, as with approximately 170 spaces available in Year 7 they receive multiple applications for each available place. Entrance to Latymer Upper School in Year 7 is determined by an entrance exam followed by an interview for shortlisted candidates. 

All applicants will be invited to sit an entrance exam on 6 December 2023. The exam is set by Latymer Upper School and consists of two papers in English and mathematics. References from your child’s current school will also be taken into account at this stage. 

On 12 December 2023, decisions are finalised and the shortlisted candidates will be invited back for an interview in early January 2024. Offer letters are sent out on 9 February 2024 and the acceptance deadline is in early March.

How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exam at Latymer Upper School?

The deadline for 11+ registration applications is 13 October 2023 and there is a non-refundable registration fee of £150. You can find the registration form for Latymer Upper School here.

If you are applying for a full bursary, please complete the 11+ Full Bursary Registration Form. You will be contacted by the admissions team to confirm that you are eligible for this bursary.

Academic and music scholarships are also offered at Latymer Upper School at 11+. No separate application or process is required for an academic scholarship as these are based on the entrance exam and interview. 

For music scholarships, candidates should be at Grade 5 on their main instrument. Auditions are held on 13 January 2024, following the interview day. Further information can be found here

What is the 11 Plus (11+) entrance exam format for Latymer Upper School?

Latymer Upper School sets its own 11+ exam papers in English and maths. The exam consists of the following papers:

  • Maths: (60 minutes followed by a 20-minute break)  problem-solving abilities, Section A is multiple-choice & Section B is open-answer 
  • English comprehension: (35 minutes), multiple-choice
  • English creative writing: (45 minutes), awards marks for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, & sentence structure
