About Latymer Prep School

Latymer Prep School is the co-educational prep school of Latymer Upper School, on Upper Mall in Hammersmith beside the Thames. Children join at 7+ into Year 3 and move on to Latymer Upper at 11.

The school takes 44 children at 7+, 22 boys and 22 girls, making it one of the larger 7+ intakes in west London. Every candidate sits the entrance exam in person at the school; remote assessments are not offered.

Admissions information for 2027 entry to Latymer Prep School at 7 Plus (7+)

Latymer Prep is deliberately even-handed at 7+: 22 places for boys and 22 for girls, every one awarded on the assessment alone. The school states plainly that it has no sibling policy, so a brother or sister already at the school makes no difference to the outcome.

What it does have is a well-documented bursary programme at 7+, covering 25% to 100% of fees, means-tested and assessed separately from the academic ranking. The school’s own wording: ‘We do not set a higher pass mark for bursary candidates.’ The £220 registration fee is waived for full-bursary applicants.

Shortlisted children come back for an interactive assessment in the week of 18 January 2027, a shared activity session and group interview, with letters inviting them sent on 12 January. The school says no preparation is possible for that stage, and offers follow towards the end of January.

There is no reasoning paper at Latymer Prep, which keeps the preparation picture simple: reading, writing and number work, all at a level a well-taught Year 2 child can reach. The school’s advice is that any preparation ‘should be low key’, and the second-stage activity session cannot be prepared for at all.
