What is the 11 Plus (11+) entrance exam format for Immanuel College?
The entrance exam is four timed, multiple-choice GL Assessment papers, all sat in one morning at the school:
- Mathematics, 50 minutes.
- English, 45 minutes.
- Verbal reasoning, 50 minutes.
- Non-verbal reasoning, 20 minutes.
This is the classic GL four-subject format that most grammar school areas use, which makes preparation unusually straightforward for an independent school: standard GL-style multiple-choice practice in all four subjects, worked to time.
The individual interview follows, and is considered alongside the papers.
Immanuel College 11 Plus (11+) top tips for your child
- Practise all four subjects in the GL multiple-choice format, to time. The paper lengths are published, so rehearse them exactly.
- Note the short non-verbal reasoning paper: 20 minutes rewards fast, familiar pattern work.
- Prepare a few genuine interests for the interview rather than rehearsed answers.
- Plan for a full morning including lunch, not a quick sitting.
- If your child writes well, look at the creative writing scholarship alongside the academic one.
