Admissions information for 2025 entry to Greenshaw High School at 11 Plus (11+)

Year 7 admission into Greenshaw Academy is coordinated by the London Borough of Sutton. The admissions authority for the school is Greenshaw Learning Trust and more information about this authority can be located here

The school strongly recommends that prospective students and their parents attend one of Greenshaw High School’s Autumn Term Open Evenings. The next Open Evening will take place in June 2024.

This will give you and your child the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the facilities, meet the staff, and ensure HBS is the right choice for you. For up-to-date information on Open Evenings, you can check the school’s website where you can also find a virtual tour of the school.

The school admits 314 students into Year 7 each year and there are approximately 60 selective places available. As it is likely that the school will receive more applicants than available places, Greenshaw allocates spaces using the following criteria:

  • Looked after, or previously looked after children
  • Children with exceptional medical or social needs
  • Children who perform well in the Selective Eligibility Test (up to 60 places available)
  • Children of staff members
  • Children who have a sibling at the school
  • Children who live close to the school

How can I register my child for the 11 Plus (11+) exams at Greenshaw High School?

Greenshaw is one of the six grammar schools of Sutton which requires prospective students to take a Selective Eligibility Test (SET).

You can register your child for the SET by completing the online application, available until the start of August 2024 on any of the Sutton grammar schools’ websites. You only need to register for the test once to apply to any of these grammar schools.

Before you start your application you will need:

  •  Your child’s full details, including name, address, and date of birth
  • A good quality recent digital photo clearly showing your child’s face (less than 2MB in size)
  • The name, address, and headteacher of your child’s current school
  • The name of the local authority to which you pay your council tax
  • Your full details, including email address

The school does not have a catchment area, however, in recent years the furthest offer they have made based on their distance criteria is around 1.2 km.

You will receive your child’s SET results about a week following the exam. You may then list ‘Greenshaw High School’ as a preference on your Common Application Form. This form must be submitted by the end of October 2024.

What is the 11 Plus (11+) entrance exam format for Greenshaw High School?

The Greenshaw SET consists of two papers:

  • English (40-50 minutes)
  • Maths (40-50 minutes)

The Greenshaw High School Selective Eligibility Test (SET) takes place in September 2024. It is important to note that there is only one stage to this exam, whereas the other grammar schools in Sutton have an additional second-stage test.

These papers are multiple-choice and have a comfort break in between them. The content for this test is based on the Key Stage 2 national curriculum for Years 5 and 6. This exam will not have verbal or non-verbal reasoning sections.

Please note that success in this test will not automatically secure your child’s place in Year 7.

How to prepare your child for the 11 Plus (11+) Greenshaw High School exam

The most useful way to prepare for Greenshaw High School’s 11+ entrance exam is to use practice tests to familiarise your child with the exam content and format.
