For Barnet-based grammar schools, students must take the Barnet 11 plus (11+).  Each Barnet school has its own separate testing and admissions process. It is also important to note that as these schools are academies/voluntary aided schools, their admissions process is not the same as schools under the London Borough of Barnet local authority.

The entrance test is a mixture of GL Assessment and the school’s own papers. It is composed of two papers, each lasting approximately 40-50 minutes. All questions are multiple-choice. These papers will test the following areas:

Queen Elizabeth’s School (QE Boys) 11 plus

The QE Boys 11 plus is an electronically marked GL Assessment multiple-choice entrance exam composing of two papers, each lasting approximately 50 minutes, testing:

St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School 11 plus

The St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School 11 plus is a GL Assessment multiple-choice entrance exam testing:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Verbal reasoning
  • Non-verbal reasoning

The Henrietta Barnett School 11 plus

The Henrietta Barnett School 11 plus has two rounds:

  • Round One: English, Verbal reasoning, & Non-Verbal Reasoning papers – Three multiple-choice GL Assessment Papers, equivalent to the other Barnet school’s papers.
  • Round Two: English comprehension and writing & Maths – Papers written by the school for the 300 children with the highest scores.
