Epsom College is an independent, co-educational, boarding and day school in Epsom Downs, Surrey for 11-18-year-old students. The 72-acre site is only 15 miles from Central London and is located within the M25.

The history of the college dates back to the 19th century when Dr John Propert set out to establish a school to give aid to widowed medical families. One of Britain’s first national fundraising campaigns led to the school obtaining College Royal Approval. In 1855, Prince Albert and Queen Victoria headed the opening of The Royal Medical Benevolent College which would later be renamed Epsom College in 1910 and since then, all monarchs of Britain have acted as the College’s Patrons.

Despite the name change, benevolence remains one of Epsom’s core values. Based at the college is The Royal Medical Foundation, an independent charity which offers pensions for financially strained retired doctors and their families. Beyond this, the students work to support multiple charities, community groups, and local schools; raising an estimated £40,742 of social value and racking up over 8,500 hours of voluntary service each academic year.

Based on their impressive results in public exams, Epsom College is regularly among the UK’s leading schools. It has been placed in the top 1% nationally by the Department of Education and was voted Independent School of the Year in 2022 as the Overall Winner as well as School of the Year for Student Wellbeing. They are also one of four UK boarding schools that the Carnegie Centre has awarded ‘gold’.

Admissions information for 2024 entry to Epsom College at 11 Plus (11+)

The Open Mornings offered to Year 4-5 students involve a pupil-led tour of the upper and lower schools including a day or boarding house, departmental showcases, and an address by the Head. College tours, which operate all year round, are available on weekdays and operate in a similar format to the Open Mornings but without the departmental showcases and Head’s address. After visiting, parents/legal guardians are invited to fill out a registration form which kickstarts the process of admissions.

Following registration, your child may be invited to a 15-minute interview where Epsom College staff get a chance to better know your child before the January exams.

The entrance exams for Year 6 students are held in January and they are the most vital determining factor for Epsom College offering your child a place.

The selection process is determined by the candidate’s performance in the entrance exams, their interview impression, and school references.

As a parent/legal guardian, you must submit a confirmation deposit of £4,000 to accept your child’s place; £2,000 of this deposit will be deducted from the first term’s fees.

During the February half-term, a Year 6 offer holder event is held where parents/legal guardians can meet the Senior Leadership Team and take part in a Q&A, whilst your child has the chance to participate in team-building activities with other offer-holders.
